  • Just my view..

1.I got mine from ebay - didn't think to look anywhere else
    2.Don't know enough
3.Not sure I'd buy a second hand dress for £1k. Mine was £1200 and I got it for £99. I'd expect a second hand garment to go for significantly less than half price.
    4. The idea of it not being cleaned might be off-putting, but in reality, I'll be getting mine specially cleaned once the alterations are finished
5.Google the designer and see where similar "pre-loved" dresses are sold.

If you are going to find it hard to part with, or sell more cheaply, why not just keep it?

    1. What sites would you definitely consider buying a second hand wedding dress from?
    2. Alternatively, where would you avoid like the plague?
    3. What would be a substantial enough discount to make you consider secondhand (my dress cost £2000 new and I'm considering selling for £1000 - is that still too much? I've seen really expensive dresses going for £400ish on ebay and had hoped for more than that?)
    4. Would it put you off it it hadn't been dry-cleaned, or would you be happy to have a price reduction and dry clean yourself (dry cleaning a dress the size of mine will cost £150 apparently!!!!)
    5. Any other tips/traps?
I got mine off Ebay. Also looked on Preloved.
    WOuldn't avoid anywhere.
Mine was £980 new and I bought it for £150. I would have gone up to £300 2nd hand, so roughtly 70% off.
Yes it would put me off not being dry-cleaned. I wouldn't have bought it.
State any marks it has, any clicks, what the hem is now like, how tall you are and what size heals you wore.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
  • Have you tried Gumtree? I ended up getting mine from Ebay but it was one of the sites I checked frequently.

  • One thing to remember when selling second hand is that your buyers will have to travel perhaps some distance just to see one dress - so will factor this time into their visit.

I would go for pre-loved rather than ebay - you dont have the listing fees but also if you were selling action style I wouldnt want to try on a dress then have to bid for it - I am sure there are ways around this but it would put me off.

You have to remember with second hand dresses they are the lowest of the low, if someone had the money to buy a new dress they would and if someone had the money that most people were after for a 2nd hand one most would rather buy a new cheap one then a 2nd hand one again..

That's why if your willing you can pick up £1000 dresses for next to nothing.

This thread is a bit old though now guys :D

What a cheek - i bought a second hand Maggie Sottero because i wasn't prepared to pay over £1000, not because i couldnt afford to. If the dress is immaculate, its better to buy second hand quality, rather than new tat. I paid £75 for the same effect.

Totally agree. Some people it seems are just snobby about buying a second hand dress.

Everyone loves a bargain, and if you can get an immaculate second hand dress, then that's the way to go IMO. Why pay over a thousand when you can get it for less than a hundred. I too had the money to buy a new one if I had wanted too, but my opinion was that I'd rather save my money for other things.

My dress was sort of second hand, I got it off eBay, but it had never been worn. There was no way I was paying stupid money for a dress I was only going to wear for one day when I could get a beautiful one for a fraction of the price....it's called being canny with money.

You are assuming everyone feels as you do ......and of course everyone is different.
Frankly I think anyone who is struggling to pay for their wedding and pays £2K for a dress when the exact same dress worn once for a few hours and then dry cleaned is available for 20 percent of the cost is absolutely barking mad ...... and I'm as entitled to my opinion as you are.

Many people would rather add the saved £1500 to the food budget or to have a nicer venue .
