RBS Debit Card Upgrade

Hi

TBH got myself in money trouble many years ago, now all paid off, save instead of spend.

I have a basic RBS account turned to Select silver. I cannot use my card at Asda petrol extra etc

So phoned them and asked if I could get upgraded, yes no problems just go to the branch. Then total hassle, they said I have a debit card, I explained, then they said but you use point of sale of already, explained again.

A debate then was started, they said they need to order me a new card but they couldn't make up there mind if it was partial or full card.

Anyone know what the right answer is? Just out of interest. I searched but could only see people talking about full/offline?

Thanks for your input.

The select silver is just the basic account with extra benefits, and a debit card that doesn't restrict you to RBS/Natwest cash machines.

To be honest you could still end up getting a blue debit card, that still wont work in Asda Pay@Pump machines as it still an online card.

You need to close your account down and improve your credit rating to get an offline card as the new one they send will be exactly the same and still won't work at pay as you pump.

Spoke to them again and they don't seem to know what they are doing. Just been told all RBS cards now issued will not work at Asda regardless. Mmmm

Not true if you have a servicecard then its an offline card and will work in Pay@Pump terminals.

Well as you both said RBS just told me rubbish. The complaints team advised that you have to apply for a new account.

Have received £50 to say sorry (wasn't asking for that).

Managed to open a 123 account with Santander this morning.

Congratulations, however you can still end up with an online card with Santander which you can't use in Pay@Pump terminals either.

When you get your paperwork it will either say MFC or MFC Online. If it says MFC online then you will get the un-embossed card that can only be used where terminal can get authorisation for your payment.

Personally I can't see why the fuss over the difference between the cards. I've used pay at the pump before but invariably if buying a paper or using a voucher of some sort I have to go inside.
