Am I in my rights? Car Purchase

Hi all,
I am currently in a dispute with 'The Car People' and searching for immediate advice to know my rights.
I purchased a car on 2nd of January 2013, supplied with a 30 day warranty. After 14 days i was having problems with my car with the key fob not locking my car. They told me it was batteries, they replaced, them however the problem still occurred. They then took the car to a key company saying the keys need re-coding, however the company were unsuccessful with the matter.
I was then instructed by the car people to book the car in with the manufacturer which is mercedes benz and they will sort out the payment with them. Mercedes ran a diagnostics and told me the car had a faulty 'Amplifier in the rear windscreen' and needed a new one costing £1200. They said they will call me with a date for repair once they had told The Car People the actual problem.
The Car People contacted me hours later explaining that they will send my car to a car alarm company and have an after market alarm fitted to the car to by pass the problem. I rejected the proposal as my argument was that the car still had a faulty rear windscreen and if i ever wanted to trade the car in i would lose value if the car was ever plugged into a diagnostics machine as the windscreen (the actual problem) had not been fixed. , i requested a genuine windscreen replacement ( actual fault on the car) instead of an after market alarm system.
The car people rejected my request and say this is all they can offer, and advised me to check my rights as they believe I am wrong in what i propose.
Surely I am in my rights to stick to my guns and take this matter further as i believe the actual fault on the car isn't being replaced, they are trying to save £1000 by fitting an aftermarket alarm to by pass the problem and they believe they are fixing my problem of unlocking my car.
Sorry for the long essay i am just looking for advice of my rights and what process/action I should take next.
I appreciate anybody that responds with advice and thank you very much for your time
