I actually found them very expensive in London.
I booked a hotel in Ilford that was cheaper, and it has a fridge.0 -

Maybe i'm remembering wrongly and there was no security guard. Or maybe there was a big staff member that happened to be near the door. Maybe there was a guy helping with suitcases- a porter, maybe a big strong looking porter, maybe no porter at all, I don't know. I don't remember that day. But, one is likely going to have to walk past staff, and one of them might ask about the big package. And then not OK it. (particularly bear in mind that i've spoken to many staff on the phone, and they've said it's not OK).0 -
Can't you just get fish & chips or something, easier than wandering around with a microwave.0

I've never come across a hotel that has had microwaves in the room. Neither have I come across any that would allow you to use staff microwaves unless it was for heating baby food where no other method was available.
If you want that sort of thing then self-catering apartments is the answerThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
no hotels I know of have public microwaves, looked for serviced apartments or self cateringI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

I find this thread hilarious, this guy is sweating on smuggling a microwave into a hotel when he could easily grab some dinner for less than £5 around the corner. As if whatever you bung in the microwave would be better or more healthy anyway.
The human mind is a weird thing, once you get an idea into your head you can't let it go, no matter how daft it ends up being.0 -
If heating food is such an issue buy self heating camping food.0

Hi,
how long are you staying in the hotel, is it permanent?
Edit: Found this mini oven/grill, only 14¼" x 8¼" x 8¾",
you should be able to smuggle it in past security in a Tesco bag.

A few easy to make, healthy options to eat in a Travelodge hotel room...
Couscous + your choice of cold meat/fish & salad (tinned mackerel is great, no can opener needed)
Instant noodles (replace the chemical sachet with miso paste) + sliced mushrooms, beansprouts, mangetout etc
Soup (some instant varieties healthier than others) + bread/sandwiches
Pasta + meat/fish (as above)
Boiled eggs (yes, they can be done in a kettle (with care!)
Why do you need a microwave or even to buy unhealthy take out food? How long are you planning to stay? Presumably you will have have a car if you were planning to take a microwave so you can access supermarkets, restaurants etc further afield?“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
