Cats will often over groom when poorly or stressed rather than neglect themselves.
Could you make him a shelter outside with a blanket and hot water bottle for when you don't want him in the house? I bought a cat kennel for our local stray, so he had a shelter when it was wet and we weren't at home, he always uses it.
Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind.
They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.
  • It's great that you're showing this little old cat some love, but be careful of ticks and fleas. We have 4 (4!) cat's, 2 youngun's and 2 old ladies. The oldest has started to come home and we're always finding ticks on her, they're nasty things and carry diseases, they're easy enough to remove though it's just unpleasant. She's ancient and is on her last legs but we still give her love.

It's hard to turn away from a sad little face looking up at you and not feel guilty, but you have to think of your family first, if you're willing to go to the effort of making sure the little thing is free of fleas and ticks then keep encouraging him to visit but if not then I wouldn't let it in your house until you're sure he's clean.

Where we used to live our neighbours used to come and knock on our door if their cat didn't come when called, Buggalugs was a daily visitor, would come running at the sound of hubbies car, would sit and watch hamster/fish/crickets (food for spiders) for hours. He would also attack my cat clock, the tail no longer swings on that. They had 2 cats but mercedes was vry shy, apart from 1 time when she slipped in as hubby went to work at 3am. First I knew where weird scratching sounds in the pitch black bed room, being a wimp I turned the tv on for some light and there was Cedes, having a good stretch. I told her she had freaked me out in no uncertain term, turned the tv off and went back to sleep. If cats aren't happy, they will move on, mine have all been spoilt, they always come home.

Sounds as if it likes to come into yours for warmth etc . If you think your neighbour isn't bothered about it , do you think you could go on feeding it ? Just go on about your housework and see what happens . Our son's cat chose another home for herself a few doors away and they were happy to keep her .

If you like the cat and the cat likes you. Then have a pet without all the hassle! :p

Poor thing. Cats like warmth. I always feel so sorry seeing them out in the cold.
But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more

Well, the cat has been in a couple of times and had a warm but has not settled.
The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best

I think you should have spoken to the owner first before encouraging this cat into your home!

Our cats stay out a lot because they choose to yet they are greedy !!!!!!s and will approach anyone who will listen to there fake 'we are starving and unloved' routine ..... I would be livid if one of my neighbours had done what you have done :o

But this poor cat is very thin, old and left out in all weathers. It is either starving or got kidney failure and will likely die soon.

So would you just leave it to suffer in the bitter cold, starved.ill and unloved? Have a heart,at least when it dies it will have known a bit of comfort, warmth and a bit of food.I hope the OP does continue to give it some attention. What it really needs though is a vet by the sound of it.

It is a very different scenario to a healthy greedy cat who makes out it is hungry, and it is easy to tell the difference.

If you had read all of the OP's posts you would have read that the cat is outside all the time, thin and old, plus the owners are not approachable. Personally I think what the OP is doing is lovely and should be commended at least the old kitty has a little comfort and affection.

im sure you mean well but you shouldn't invite someone elses cat into the house. Especialy not feed it and sit with it on your lap and pet it.

Its tyour neighbours cat after all - I'm sure they look after it. My cat comes in and out of the hosue hundred times a day., we dont have a cat flap but there are plenty of people in the house to let him in and out. Some tiems he sits at the front of the house on my window sill meowing like he's freezing to death and then you go out and let him and he comes wonders for a minute or two and then sits by the kitchen window waiting to be let out.

Often when they moew outside the hosue -it's not a big deal sometimes they just want to come in, do a few rounds on their territory and then walk out.

By him sitting outside your window does not mean it's freezing to death - they are very happy to stay outside at 5 degrees celcius - it may be a problem if there are foxes outside and they end up getting in fights. But other than that there are no real dangers.

You have petted ghim and put food out and slowing got his trust and now you're bringing him into the home petting it and what not. You have no right to do this.

if you feel the animal is being mistreated you need to call RSPCA not steal someones cat.
