Self Employment & Housing Association

I'm starting up my own electricians service, will do no work in the house I live, and supplies will not be stored there instead will pick upo from wholesalers, do I need to tell the housing association?
I would assume not, but on the housing benefit paperwork, i remember if you were self employed you have to give the business address, well obviously that's where i live even though theres no business activity here (bar book keeping).
I don't wanna not tell the Housing Association, then they find out via the housing benefit and I get in trouble.
Anyone have advice?

The housing association will have rules about running a business from home - read the tenancy agreement and tenant handbook or ask them (so, too, might your insurance company).
It may be the case that they only restrict actual working from home when it involves storage of equipment, customers visiting and so forth but that you can register a company address there without a problem.0 -
Ok I'll ask them. There's a few self employed people in the housing estate I live in. The estate is all owned by the HA so I know they limit operating from home; ill have to ask them. If they say no it's back to the drawing board.0

I doubt that the HA can stop you from registering a company at your address though they (and the council) can certainly take action against people who operate from home when they should do this from business premises (such as auto repairs and that sort of thing).
In a worse case scenario, you can simply register the business at a virtual office for a small monthly fee or at your accountant's or a relative. The smallbiz forum will tell you how to do this.0 -

I was a self employed plated driver for three years and spoke to my HA about storing cars and vans upto 3.5 ton. They were fine so long as I didn't casuse an obstruction which wasnt a problem even though the cars were stored on their property and not always with tax.
Used to get a few funny looks and comments from neighbours especially when I used to bring home high end BMW, Audi's and Porches
The only business they wouldn't allow was taxi driving. I dont really know why.Bedroom Tax / Spare room subsidy / Housing Benefit Reduction - It's the same thing, get over it.0 -

Wow I'd have loved to see their faces when they saw those motors.
I would have thought taxi driving was the one they allowed!
Cheers!0
