I suppose it depends on your budget for a "good" hotel and the facilities you want.
I've stopped in the Tryp Bosque before and it was fine. Maybe in need of a little modernisation but it's set back from the main drag in a quieter area with a few bars, shops and restaurants nearby.
There are also two other Tryp hotels in Palma but I haven't stopped in them but it is a generally good middle-market Spanish chain and I have stopped in several of their properties elsewhere.0 -
Every person has a different want/need/expectation of a hotel,
I might want 5* you might want 3* etc., when on review sites you need to weed put the complainers for no good reason and then read between the lines forming your own opinion.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -

Yes, you are always going to get mixed reviews of every hotel on Trip Advisor so you need to learn which reviews to ignore. Personally, I take no notice of anything that says "Best hotel in the world!" or "Worst hotel ever!". The truth always lies somewhere between.
To one person a hotel may be a "tranquil retreat" while to others it maybe "isolated and boring". If someone stops in the middle of the nightlife area and is expecting peace and quiet then it's not surprising that they complain in their reviews about the noise. If you are going to be out partying yourself then it's not. What one person calls "grand" another thinks is "old fashioned".0 -
We liked the Costa Azul when we went to Palma a few years ago. It's right on the promenade and if you have a front facing room there is a great view of the cathedral. Best to ask for a high floor as there is a busy road at the front, but I would definitely return. From what I remember, it was good value. We didn't want to pay over the odds as we were out of the hotel all day sightseeing. It also had a nice bar and restaurant.0

Costa Azul for me as well, We were there two years ago, high floor, busy road ... but great view of the harbour (especially lovely at night, sitting on the (small) balcony with a bottle of wine).Normal people worry me.0

Was absolutely perfect for us. Modern, spotless, beautiful views, & a great location.0 -

Another vote for the Costa Azul.
Although it is located on the sea front with a dual carriageway outside the front door, the sea views, pool area and great promenade walk into the city centre make it a good choice.
Buses are frequent if required including one that goes to the airport. It's about a 20 to 25 minute stroll into the old city centre.0 -

Thanks to all for your help. I've taken the plunge and booked the Costa Azul :j0
