Hey all,
I'm a learner driver very close to test standard and looking forward to life after lessons. I'm looking to buy a Ford Cougar 2.5litre V6. Anyone know where I could get insurance for this type of car at my age? (21 almost 22) I've had 2 quotes and both have been over £3500 plus for fully comp in my name and just over £2000 for third party fire and theft. Anyone know any companies that I could get a bit of a cheaper quote, even a couple of hundred quid could make all the difference for me, thanks.
Thanks,
Tommo.

Yeah Right. You'll be lucky.
Try performance direct and also the online search engines like confused.com0 -
Even if you are still very close to test standard you are still a learner!
A V6 couger is a strange car for such a young person, and the quotes will reflect that. It isnt even that quick, or practical!
Have you considered getting a something like a Fiesta for a few years first off to build up experience and no claims?0 -
It's also a bit of an oddity in terms of panels and parts so repair costs tend to be higher.
The only thing in your favour is your age (just over 21 as opposed to 17). Your inexperience though will increase the premiums and excesses until you start earning some NCD.
Perhaps lower your sights for a couple of years until the NCD / experience increases.0 -
One of the girls i work with has a cougar V6, she recently needed to replace both bottom arms, no one makes them aftermarket so she had to buy genuine ford items. Even after our trade discount them still cost over £130 each. Total cost including VAT was just a shade over £300 and that was supply only.
Also just remember it's basically a mondeo in drag.0 -
There are a lot of cars which looks better, drive faster and handle better than the Cougar but are still cheaper to insure0

Try ecarinsurance. They could save you £££ for TPFT.Putting in your details gives about E1150.00 for TPFT.
Best of luck.0 -
Don't expect something you shouldn't practically have! I wanted a Landrover defender when I was 17 but made do with a 10 year old fiesta 1.0L which was £975 TPFT insurance - the second year was half that on a 4 year old fiesta 1.3 and five years down the line I can now look at pretty much any car I want with my NCB.
Remember (I know you weren't asking for driving advice but I'll let you have some anyway) you'll be a new, unexperienced driver in a car that you really shouldn't be driving with that power etc until you've had a couple of years' experience and I dare say a few near misses. You'll be grateful you bought a puny shed in a couple of years when your insurance is equally puny! Insurance is cripling on that car for a reason!0 -
All the quotes i've had have been really high, might be time soon to put a suit on and go and visit the bank manager, i'll find someway to get round it, thanks for the help folks, laters0
