Undercharge

Last April I was charged £195 by my dentist for a crown. I have just received a letter teling me to pay another £17 as he undercharged me. Can he do that after 10 months??

    They've certainly undercharged you.

How much would you like to go back there again? Is it worth £17 to have to find a new dentist?
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
  • It's not the card receipt that you need but an invoice or estimate for the dental work.
If the invoice is showing £17 less than the amount you were finally charged then you do owe the extra.

One thing to bear in mind is that if you do owe the money and don't pay it promptly, the dentist concerned may well take you off their books, leaving you to find another one willing to take you on.
  • It will cost them more than 17 pound in admin fee's if they keep writing to you.

  • And it may well cost the OP more than £17 in petrol, bus fares or taxi fares if they have to find a new dentist.

Very true, it all depends. If the OP was happy with this dentist, perhaps it is wise to stay.

  • Fees are £209 for a crown. Ask what the other £3 is for.

That's assuming it's an English NHS charge.

It might be in Scotland or NI (Welsh NHS charges are less) or it might have been private.

But you should have been given some sort of estimate,/ written ideaat the start as to what the charge should have been.

  • What price did you agree on when you had the treatment done? (note, I am not asking what price you paid). if you agreed to pay £212 and only paid £195 then you owe them the money, if you agreed to pay £195 and paid it, you owe them nothing.
