Kitchen sinks

Hi everyone.

I'm looking for a new kitchen sink and wondered if you have any recommendations? I'm on a tight budget but want something that's going to last. I've been looking at Astracast - are they any good? What thickness do I need?

Specifically, I'm looking for a stainless steel 2 tap hole 1000 x 600 sit on sink with left hand drainer.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you :)

    This sort of thing?

Leisure is a decent brand, though more in the "budget" price range. There are lots of different rrands like Carron, Astracast and Franke. No doubt others too.

We have a Franke sink, now 25 years old and still cleans up like new. Franke will cost a bit more.

A thicker sink will last longer and flex less.

If you want something that will last look at Franke or Blanco. Both very good products made of thicker gauge stainless steel and will last years.

We fitted a Swiss made Franke Black granite onyx sink about four years ago and it will be here in at least another twenty because the quality/price is well worth it in my estimation.

Plus the sink is fitted with an optional Franke Rollamat Pan Rest / Drainer Rack and it really does look the Bees'Knees:)

  • I have an Astracast sink and would not recommend it. Mine looked very shabby and scuffed within a couple of years even though I have a dishwasher so not heavily used.

When I replace it I hope to buy Franke as they seem to be very good ( as poster above confirms - love your black sink btw)

Thank's for your nice comment. The Franke sink is made from stain-resistant non-porous granite and acrylic resin and they are not immune to staining from mineral deposits, what sink is'nt, Franke recommends that after use it is best to dry the surface, which for some would be another unwanted chore, but... the result is certainly noticed and the sparkle which reminds me of the quartz that sparkles in Aberdeen granite is beautiful.

We have our Bungalow up For Sale at the moment and viewers have noted the sparkle from the sink as they view our kitchen.

Well worth the money and I do not work for Franke.:)
  • Thank you for your comments. Does anyone have any experience with the brand "Leisure"? I'd never heard of them, but they have come up a lot in my searches...

To be fair, there are good Astracast ones and poor ones too...., always found them to be fairly helpful as a company myself.

Sometimes you are buying the same sink with a different name stamped on it and paying a different price depending on what that name is ;).

Stainless steel ones do tend to scratch no matter who you buy them from, particulatly the polished ones.

cddc - I know what you are alluding to when you mention the branding but I have always felt that the sinks with the 'owner's brand' on them are a little bit better to the 'owned brand'. Considering the price difference, its unlikely that there are no differences, but I stand to be corrected. I only occasionally deal with one the brands so I dont know what much about them.
