Tai Pan restuarant in Birmingham

Went to Tai Pan today with my girlfriend for lunch because we couldn't be bothered to make lunch. Now normally I dislike going there anyway because of the poor customer service, but today they really took the biscuit.

My rice that I ordered contained a hair which is bad enough already, when I raised the issue with the manager on duty, he replied simply sorry and took the rice away without another word.

Come the end of the meal when we asked for the bill, not another word had been mentioned. So when we asked what was happening in regards to the offending item we were told we could have another portion but we couldn't take it away or we could have it taken off the bill.

We took the item off the bill and then paid and left after we got home my girlfriend called them back because she felt that we were overcharged for what we had ordered after the rice was taken off (just 2 portions of sushi and a drink and the bill was just under £25). So when we called back we were told we had been charged for two portions of the sushi buffet (even though we didn't have any) and one of the staff was making comments in the background during the call.

I've never experienced such poor and shoddy customer service - avoid these cowboys like the plague.

  • I suggest a call to Environmental Health would be in order. If hairs are appearing in the food, their food handling procedures clearly aren't up to scratch.

I don't think clearly is the right word. The law requires some sort of head garment I believe. You see caps in fast food places and in resturants chef style hats. Hair is very light and can float through the air from any location. Just finding 1 hair is not enough to indicate how good their procedures are.

My girlfriend wanted to eat sushi and it was the closest place:(

I should have elaborated - point was there was zero interest from the manager. He simply said sorry then looked down at the pad he was carrying and went away. He made it obvious that he didn't really care. That was what was annoying.
