Want to pack in work and go back to Uni - finance help please!

Okay I've been studying at Uni part time whilst holding down a full time job. I have a diploma in Business and now need to complete the last year to get my degree.

The job is a dead end job in a call centre. Not that all call centre work is bad - but it is something I don't want to do.

I have a wife who works and gets 11.5k gross p/a. I also have 3 children all under 11.

My wages only account for about 1k a month take home and I was wondering if I packed it all in and studied full time - using my diploma to start a full time educational degree what help would I get. I've checked with family credit and they will help with 7k a year. So that would leave me 5k short. Would I get any help for my course fees? Would I be able to get a student loan?

As you can see there isn't a significant difference in what I would get from Family Tax Credit and my present employ.

Any advice, help or experiences welcome

I have just checked on the student loans site. It says that

From the information you have given we estimate that you may be eligible for the following:

From the information you have given we estimate that you may be eligible for the following: Maintenance loan of £ 3,280 Fee loan of up to £ 3,070 - subject to the cost of your course HE Maintenance Grant of £ 2,765

This is calculated mentioning 7k family credit. Would this stop me getting any of the above - I guess it would!!

Have you recieved any Higher Education funding in the past? If not then I think you above figures are correct and you should be eligible to maximum funding as you are an independant.

The university should also give you a minimum bursary of £300 if you pay £3000 in tuition fees.
