  • Panniers are worth it, in my opinion generally an improvement over a rucksac.

It takes me on average 1 hour 15 mins to cycle 11 miles on a hybrid bike into central London. But I have two big hills and the entire journey is quite hilly.

You might even be quite lucky, to have a more or less downhill journey into London. After all, London is at the bottom of the valley between the North Downs and the South Downs. It depends where you live.

I think it's manageable. Give it three test runs, and see if you like it. All the best.

Though you'd then have an uphill journey back home, after you've already cycled 10 miles and have done a whole days work!

Yes 10 miles is certainly possible, will be easier on the right kind of bike for the journey. If you are going to break it up with three days riding and two days alternative then that will stop it getting too boring / tiring.

I'm another on here who does a lot of cycling to work and back. Not everyday and winter time I use the car as much as possible! But when I cycle it's a 45 mile round trip minimum for me, all on road and a bit up and down, not big hills but lots of little ones.

Yeah try and keep as much stuff at work as possible.

The traffic can be an issue with safety, just try and make things in your favour as much as possible. eg reflective, bright clothing, good lights if riding at night.

the same route everyday can play on you a bit after a while, but as yours is off road a fair bit should be fine doing the same route.

Although 10 miles not too bad and with the right bike makes a lot of difference compared to some old bike frame made out of builders scaffolding tubes!

London is north of both the North Downs and the South Downs.

Certainly doesn't lie between them. ;)
