Boost on immersion heater not working

Hiya,

This has been an ongoing problem since I moved in, my water heats up fine over night. Its a small tank though, so does about 1 small bath. After that its electric shower only.

The boost button doesn't work, Ive changed the fuse - thats about all I know how to do!

Has anyone had this problem, could anyone advise the rough costs of getting someone in, or could it be a simple fix?

Thanks
MFW

It is a simple fix...as long as you know what you are doing.

Do you have 2 immersion elements?

Oh dear, I havent got a clue what Im doing.

There are 2 elements 1 at the top, which is linked to a switch labelled off peak

1 at the bottom of the cylinder linked to a switch saying on peak boost.

Well that's the wrong way around to start. The bottom element should be the off peak one and the top one should be the peak boost.

Heat rises so the bottom element will heat the whole cylinder overnight and the top element only heats the top third of the cylinder to give you a bit of a boost during the day.

If you don't feel comfortable with rewiring and testing electricity then call someone (an electrician) in...it should cost less than £100 to rewire it and replace any faulty parts and should take less than a few hours. Most of the time is taken draining down if an immersion heater needs replacing.

Yes I read that earlier someone saying off peak shouldn't be at the top.....no wonder I cant get a full bath!

I will ask someone to come out and look at it - thanks for your help
