Grants for sports clubs

Hi all,

I've noticed on here a few of yourselves or your kids attend sports clubs.

I am looking to try and get some funding for some training equipment, poms and uniforms for my cheerleading squad.

I have applied to Awards for All, Cash4Clubs and the Warburtons Community Fund. As we are not a recognised sport  Sport England will not help, and Comic Relief are not accepting applications till summer.

Does anybody have any other ideas of companies that give grants to local clubs? Not looking for much, <£1000 really.

Thanks!

My brownies always did better from fundraising than we did from grants. Could you get permission to collect at a football/rugby game close to home? We once made £5000 collecting money at a Glasgow old firm derby.

My daughter's football team collected £900 doing bag packing in Morrisons one Saturday.

It won't help much, but my daughter has always paid for her own cheer costumes! She also used to do gymnastics and I used to have to pay for her team kit there too.

This is an excellent way to raise money & local awareness.

Have you tried contacting local companies for sponsorship?
Have you looked into Lottery grants?

Local council, local councillors (they may have monies to spend in their ward), local businesses for sponsorship.
  • Just did a sponsered walk with our football team and rased over £1000I think people are pleased to help if they see the kids are making the effort themselves , and if you don't go asking to often!
  • The National Lottery have various funding streams for sports. Local businesses may be happy to donate as well for free advertising. DD plays in a local hockey team and their kit is funded from a local business.
Never look down on anyone unless you are bending to help them up.....
  • We are just setting up a junior cricket team and have secured funding from Community First which is a government initiative which is run at local level. The application took me about 20 mins (although have experience of other funding applications for other organisations) and we got the whole amount that we asked for. It might be worth looking at. Details can be found here http://www.cdf.org.uk/content/funding-programmes/community-first

although don't know how you would find out if there was a local set up.

I also read something the other day about co-operative funding which might fit the bill, but didn't read too much into it at the time.

Awards for All is difficult to get for sports, although a well drafted application focusing on the priorities can sometimes get through. You need to ensure that you can answer as many of the priorities as possible, rather than focusing on the sporting benefits.

But for smaller amounts, that you want to receive quickly, I would definitely follow up the community first funding.

    Hope that helps :)

  • Thank you for some great ideas. I'm part of a new sports team just setting up and were looking into grants to help us with equipment costs and travel costs for competitions :)
