Protecting a Holiday booking on a credit card?

So i just applied for the Aqua Cashback card and got set an initial limit of £250.

I am planning on booking a holiday in the next few weeks to somewhere abroad but i am nervous (first time abroad) about booking it incase something goes wrong or company suddenly goes bust or something to that effect.

To my understanding say the holiday was £900 or so, if i pay at least £100 of that on my new credit card and the rest on a debit card would i be covered under section 75 for a full refund from Aqua if something did go wrong with the booking?

Your understanding is incorrect. In fact you don't have to pay even £100 to be covered:

You can pay as little as £1 on your credit card and that covers you.

However, you have to be careful if you are booking a package, ie flights, hotels etc. If you are booking directly, you are fine but going through a third party is not ie travel agent.

    Check first.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

It will probably be Thomas Cook im going through, I see now i can pay as little as £1, however since it's a cashback credit card i would probably be better paying that little bit more on the card and getting the 3% back

    *Edit*

Oh I just read what you put, i wouldn't be protected if I was to book through a travel agents?

Will get shot down for this....

There are chargeback rights avaiable in that case. As well as ATOL/ABTA cover.

But in the end S75 cover is there.

So before S75, there are other options that can/will be explored.

People need to step back and stop shouting S75 and simply talk to the card provider for the best and quickest way forward.

Yeah i realise there is ATOL/ABTA as well but i have heard of a few peoples holidays going tits up and not being covered under ATOL/ABTA for a refund so just wanted to make sure i was also under S75 just as a backup

ATOL cover is only available in very specific circumstances such a package booked with an ATOL bonded travel company. It covers flights booked via a travel agent, but does not apply to holidays or flights booked direct with scheduled airlines.

If you have both ATOL and Section 75 cover, you will be asked to claim from your credit card in the first instance.

If you only want to pay part of the deposit by credit card you will need to book at a travel agent in person or by phone. There is no facility to pay part of a deposit online.
