Moving my partner in to my council house

Options
I have been a council house tenant for about 2 months. The lady from the council is coming round to do the 4 week check to see if everything is ok.
Recently I went back to the father of my children & he has moved in with me (only a week ago)Do i need to tell her? i am worried this will affact my rights for being a council tenant.
I am not on any benifits as i work & he helps with kids stuff.
Can the council throw me out?
Please help me.

Then I'd guess they won't be happy. Better to tell them before they discover for themselves.

Are you on a probationary tenancy? What does your tenancy handbook or contract say about other occupants moving in?

Generally, social housing tenants have secure tenancies and can move in a partner without a problem but just check the policy with your own landlord - most publish tenancy handbooks that answer queries like yours.
  • if you tell them they will just note it on file that all , lots of ppl meet new and old patners and move in together so you are no diffrent ;) just be honest and say you have sorted thing out and he is moving in with you adn here it is in writeing

make sure you have writen it up and just say my patner name......

    age.....
    national insurance number...
    old address....
    new address ...

and that you are informing COUNCIL TAX as naw you are not single ;) make sure you do ring council tax and tell them they will catch you other wise

best of luck most councils are helpfull if your honest and help them

to see if he's claiming benefits?
    to see if he's legit?

It's all to do with stopping fraud isn't it?

Again, your tenancy agreement and handbook will answer your specific queries. Do you have a probationary tenancy?

Social housing tenants with secure tenancies (I.E. after the probationary period if there is one) can generally keep them for their entire life, whatever personal changes they experience and can only usually be evicted through the courts for serious breaches like rent arrears or anti-social behaviour, and even then judges often find in favour of the tenant.

See the Shelter website for information on how social housing tenancies work and how hard it is for certain tenants to be evicted.

There was a high profile case in the newspaper about a household who bought their council place and then sold it through right to buy. The wife claimed domestic violence and then got further housing from the council. She went onto have 3 or 4 children with her allegedly estranged husband...The council's hands are tied - once they allocated the property based on her priority need, the fact that there were no longer any continuing grounds for it cannot lead the loss of the tenancy.
