Frankly this is just the usual newspaper scare story.
Rates go up and down and today's rate is not far off what it was this time last year.
Six months ago everyone said the euro was doomed and in three months time after Italy drags the euro-zone through another crisis who knows where the rate will be.

Do you think the pounds going to rise soon?
advice appreciated!!
Unlikely.
In the short term.
A weak pound is good for Britain as it makes exports cheap but the Government isn't in control of it the currency markets are.
Buy now if you must but the rate isn't going to shift that much in a month.0 -

The Interbank rate never got over €1.9673 that month and tourists rates can be anything up to 5% off this.
If you did then I doubt whoever gave you the FX is still in business.:D
what was that too-good-to-be-true currency exchange site called?0 -

It was before the Nationwide started charging for using their debit card abroad as that is what I used and it was from an ATM in Vegas, not bought in the UK. The rate had gone up to $2.08, but on that particular day it hit $2.11.
Tourist rate, what's one of them? I haven't used a tourist rate for about 15 years.0 -
We got a silly rate from Crown Currency around then. And they did indeed go out of business.
I wish I'd bought a load more at the time.0 -

Does England export anything these days? I guess one good thing is that it will make foreign workers think twice about sending money 'home' and maybe pump some money back into the English economy. I think it'll be worth hanging on a bit as Italians obviously refuse to do austerity and the Germans wont be able to stomach that much pasta like they have potatos and Meze. Spain is not out of the woods yet by a long stretch. England aint great but the UK economy will look good compared to the Med basin countries.0 -
