chip & Pin Querie

Have had a new chip & Pin card for about a month now and recently used it at a tesco till.

the visa machine did not recognise the chip and the checkout girl asked me to sign the recipt. i asked her should it not be a pin number and she said the machine did not recognise the chip.

does this not defeat the purpose of this new system of preventing CC Fraud?

Do i have a dodgey chip in my card? and if so should i contact my bank.

any similar experiences out there?

You can check whether your PIN works in any cash machine.

Have you tried it in any other outlet - I use Tescos all the time & on a few occassions their card terminals haven't been working properly - if you are OK elsewhere it's Tescos problem -if your card is not working in shops but is Ok at the ATM then, your PIN is blocked & can be unblocked at the ATM - if your card won't work at the ATM then you need your card issuer to order you a new one

i find i cannot use chip and pin at somerfield so have to sign.. its fine elsewhere
