What would you do redundant at 50+?

Hi all
I am in need of some advice re my situation and would welcome any ideas / comments.
I am 51 years old and was made redundant two weeks ago. The company went into liquidation so it will be a few weeks before the DTI pay any redundancy pay due to me. This will be a minimum amount as I had only been employed there 3 years.
I was offered a job which I accepted three days later - I was desperately worried about being able to make ends meet (I live alone).
The job is a disaster - I hate it and the thought of doing another day fills me with dread.
Trouble is it is obviously going to help relieve the financial worries.
What would you do - carry on or leave and hope something else comes up?
Have any other moneysavers experience of getting a new job at 50+ - I would love to hear your comments.
Thanks for reading

I would stay in the job but look for something else - you're not going to be in any better position by leaving now.
It may be worth seeing if your jobcentre offers careers advice as you're still young enough to retrain if you're unlikely to get much choice in your sector.0 -
i agree stay where u are to pay yr bills and look around... try the DIY stores they actively employ over 50's and offer full and part time
good luck

I agree with shykins, worry over money is a terrible thing so stay where you are to see the bills are paid. It's a good sign though that you got another job fairly quickly and I'd say you should continue to apply for others. Ideally if you move fairly fast you could pass the job you're doing now off as a temporary position.
Which also makes me think it might be worth signing up with agencies depending on what type of work you do? We LOVE to see older secretarial temps coming in where I work, they have so much experience and tend to know what they're doing
Chin up, it can only get better!0
