How much electricity would a shared hallway lightbulb use p/m?

There is a hallway which is shared between two homes (upstairs and downstairs) and is constantly in use. It is sometimes left on for long periods. I recently found out that it is our power that is powering the light.
Have you any idea how much a 100 watt bulb would use in terms of electricity per month? we have been paying for it for a good 4-5 months now.
Thanks

100 at bulb will use 1kwh of electricity every 10 hours, if its on 24 hours a day 7 days a week for a month that will be 67.2 Kwh, at 15pence a unit that would cost about £10. Why don't you replace the bulb wit a cfl or better still LED lamp? That gum you like is coming back in style.0

100w bulb will run for 10 hours to use 1kWh (a unit). A unit is priced at around 15p (for ease of maths - you can get cheaper but its heading that way. To run that bulb 24/7 for 12 months would cost £131.40 at 15p per unit. In reality its probably on for a lot less than that - probably less than 50% of the time in winter and less again when it gets lighter in summer.
If you swap it for a 10 or 11W cheap CFL bulb it will only be £13 per year!Adventure before Dementia!0 -
Good news! I was worried that it was using lots of power. Still though, I dont think I should be paying for it - but I won't stress about it.
Thanks!0 -
As above, cut your bill massively by swapping for an energy saving bulb - £120 per year for the 100W bulb, or £13 for the year for an energy saver.0

Can't you turn if off when not in use?
As others said, also change it for a low energy lightbulb - they only use about 10% of the energy of a traditional condescent bulb. Either you or your neighbour probably has one or more in the back of a drawer somewhere. The energy companies gave out millions for free, many of which have never been used (especially because they last so much longer than the traditional bulbs too)0 -
Hi,
you could get two of this, stick one at top and one at bottom of stairs, can set timer up to ten minutes, your neighbour might share the cost with you.
I am not assosiated with seller, just did a search, you might be able to find them cheaper.0 -

A good option, but that one is one way only; the OP would need a two way version0 -
