Direct Claims

Hi, can anyone tell me who is responsible for the vet fees if the vet does a direct claim with pre-authorisation with the insurance company. Thanks in advance

If the pre-authorization was done then all costs were approved by the insurance company and they will pay out.

Some vets accept direct claims (insurance pays directly to the vets) so prefer the owner to pay and the owner then claim from the insurance.

The vet will get paid by the insurers directly but you will need to pay your vet the excess (usually one excess per condition per year)

You are still responsible for the fees until they are paid - the insurance contract is between you and the insurance company. However, it is likely that everything will go fine but you may need to chase up the insurance company if they have a go-slow. You are also responsible for the excess and that is the biggest problem we have, people just don't seem to understand about the excess. We have quite a few bad debts from people who just refuse to pay the excess.
