MSE Rules for Buying a Car...

  • Only ever buy ex-demos even though sometimes it's cheaper to buy brand new.

Only ever buy a car on 0% finance even though it's the biggest blag in the motor trade.

Make sure you get at least a grand more for your part ex than it's actually worth, after all,it's not like the dealer will just add a grand onto the price of the car your buying.

Don't deal with any business who has the bare faced cheek to actually want to make a profit.

Only ever take advice on here from people who have never worked in the motor trade and completley ignore helpful posts from from people who have 20 years plus motor trade experience.

I think you may have twigged that I wasn't being serious.....

I only realised that from point 2 onwards, was happily nodding along in agreement to point 1.

    1) Never buy a French car
    2) Sub £2,000 cars are better than £10,000 cars
    3) Mileage is irrelevant, other than high mileage is better
    4) Old Ford Mondeos are the best cars on the road
    5) Never buy a new car
    6) Japanese cars are "well put together"
    7) A MoT guarantees that the car is in perfect condition
    8) Never check the car out before you buy it as it is preferable to discover the faults later (e.g. it's only got three doors, not five)
    9) When you buy a car, always let the seller deal with all the paperwork.
    10) There are some outstanding bargains on Gumtree

    Any others?

I salute you sir! Thread of the month. Genius.

    I would add-
Where can I get cheap insurance for my 17yr old son who has just passed his test?
  • Buy from a dealer as the law states they must provide a three month warranty.
  • Love this. 6, 8 & 10 are my favourites from the OP & the the ones from jaydeeuk! also great!
  • 84) German cars are designed and engineered by God. 'I' was really unlucky to get the only one with expensive faults

If you have fully comp insurance on your old car don't worry about insuring the new one as you'll be covered to drive it by your old policy.

When the dealer tells you he has someone else coming to see it in fifteen minutes and they sounded very keen on the phone, he's bound to be telling the truth.

10 needs an addition. The bargain cars are in Portugal.

BMW and Mercedes and Audi are better cars because they cost more. Even 20 year old knackered ones.

Fronting will save you a pot of money.. My mates not spent any money on food, gas or electric in the last 6 months, He was caught and spending 6 months in a 10x 8 holiday chalet with a gut called Big Bob.

I have no money and need a car to tow 2 tons of turf or logs. Its not a business but i need to do this for other people and get paid.
I also need to shift 1 ton of coal also. Will an 800cc daewoo be OK, What about a 1L micra.
Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...

  • Full Service History guarantees the car has been immaculately cared for and won't develop any faults for the next 10 years.

1.If your current petrol car costs £50 a week in fuel, spending £13k on a new diesel car to reduce your fuel bill to £40 a week is a great money saving decision.

    2. If you buy a car on finance, it comes with a comprehensive, no questions asked warranty for the length of the repayment term.

    3. Never buy a French car (this point needs to be made clear to folk).
