Can anyone suggest a good networked media solution with my requirements?

Hello!

Basically I have walls built like a brick house, which means wifi from the living room router is barely registerable in the kitchen (next room along) and thus I used an old wifi access point without bothering to fiddle with it, so it just broadcasts a second wifi network. This gives me wifi in the rest of the flat. This access point is hard wired into the router.

Router with its own wifi is wired into desktop comp, which is plugged into large tv, as I mostly seat surf, and watch stuff on it, catchup, films, DVDs etc. that gives me wifi in living room as the bedroom one won't do it in the living room

In the bedroom I use the extra access points wifi to get Internet on an iPad 2 which I used to watch the tv catchup apps on a tv in there with an hdmi adaptor.

Is there anyway to get an easy set up to be able to stream over the wifi bog standard media from my desktop computer? Either through any apps on the iPad 2, or by buying a bit of not terribly expensive equipment in addition? Internet radio through some equipment/app would be nice as well for places like kitchen.

I use buzz player to view multiple formatted media on the iPad, but it has to be stored on the iPad first, and a few catchup apps,. Any add ons that'd work with it?

In addition I do have an NAS box floating around somewhere that's never been set up or used, with a spare hdd for it, but I'm wondering if the fact I have two different wifis' going on will not let it work. Just never got around to setting up.

Getting a bit fed up trying to work this all out!

  • Your only real solution is wifi home plugs in each room or wired ethernet around the house. I would also get a dual band router too.
