Options
Looking for 07 plate 1.8, something like a Vectra / Mondeo

Wouldn't turn down an estate.

Any opinions on the above 2 cars?

Why a 1.8? 2L petrol mondeo MK3 is the best in the range.

1.8 suffers from oil control ring issues. Fuel consumption is about 1 MPG different.

I sat in a vectra and that was enough to make me buy a Mondeo. Did someone replace the seat cushion with a square piece of plyboard? It felt like it.

Plenty of 2007 cars out there. I would be looking at £2000 ish and 120k miles. But with a wad of paperwork to show its been well looked after.
Rather then spend £3.5k on a lower mileage one thats had more wear and tear.

I paid just over £2000 in 2009 for my 2004 diesel estate.

I have a 1.8 Vectra, it's been rock solid reliable since I got it in 2008.
The 1.8 is the most reliable engine and not as under powered as it should be on paper.

I had to upgrade the springs and shocks though, the standard springs tend to rot and fall apart within the cars first 40k miles, so I fitted some anodised aftermarket springs, with Bilstein B4 shocks, the car went from feeling like a barge, to feeling like a much more expensive German saloon.

You can do 200 miles in one day and get out the other end feeling like you've only done 50 and the car is full of clever little tricks, you can tell it's been really thought about at design stage, but then cost cut at release (the springs).

Not sure about the added road tax / insurance as I currently have a 1.8.

I intend to keep the car for the next 3/4 years, so not looking to purchase anything with too high mileage.
