Cot Matress

Put this hear as I thought I'd get the most appropriate people looking at it. I need a cot matress 117 x 54 cm. Trouble is I'm having problems finding one. Its a old cot that we're doing up. The matress is over 20 years old so we don't want to use it.

The cheapest I've found so far is at Argos for £24. I'm not looking to spend a lot as we've been offered a cotbed. So she'll only be in it for a matter of a couple of moths max.

Any suggestions.....

kiddicare only have 119x59 I'm afraid. Tesco direct have one at a similar price as Argos - I don't think you're going to get any cheaper. An alternative is to see if your local Freecycle has any cots on offer that are newer and a more standard size. Or see if a Moses basket is offered if you have a cot bed to move up to.

Don't be tempted to use a smaller mattress as small hands can get trapped.

However new the cot is don't use a second hand cot mattress as they have been linked to a higher rate of cot death.

    search for seller
    mattress-makers
on ebay - they make them to fit and are good prices. I got one for my moses basket from them for a very good price. Its much better to get one that is the right size as its safer.

The real problem is that as your cot is so old it may not be safe. Please please check the distance between the bars of the cot meet current safety guidelines before you use it.

sorry if that comes accross as santamonious - its just that my dad was a copper and the most hearbreaking thing he's ever told me about his job involved a baby and a cot with wide bars.

I'm looking at getting a cot mattress from this seller :

They do the size you want from £19.99, but delivery would be another £10

It was my cot when I was a little one...and my sisters....and we both managed to survive somehow. It has wooden slats with some metal rods in the middle. Can't see how she'd manage to get her head (or other bit) stuck.

I've found somewhere local that has something reasonable for £25. Just waiting for the cot to be finished now.

i think u where a bit short with the above poster, just because it didnt cause problems before doesnt mean that it couldnt in the future. She was just being kind pointing out the bar spaces. My little girl has a cute crib at the moment (as she is still small enough to fit in it) and somehow she manages to get feet stuck out the side of it at times. You will be amaized how babies manage to wiggle themselves about.
  • I'm trying to find exactly the same size! Probably because our cot is of a similar age but I've measured the bars and they are ok. Mothercare also do this size though, so you may be able to get discount codes etc and it be a reasonable price.

Can I pick everyone's brain on mattresses, which is the best type to have? e.g just foam, sprung ones, ones with a frame type thing and a cover. I plan to use ours for a bit longer so don't mind getting a better quality but without spending a fortune!!

sprung is best for a cotbed AFAIK because it will last a good while. I got mine from Argos for £55 i think as their delivery was less than other places with a similar price. Id say just get a good foam one if its for a basic cot though.
