Basically the bill is in my mums name. We've only ever handed money over to pay towards the various bills as part of our board & that's as much as i know about gas.
She can't use computers so i set her an email address up & get her bills through that. Received an email saying her British Gas tarrif is set to expire March 2013.
As i would assume similar to car insurance - if she keeps going with them on their suggested replacement, it wont necessarily work out cheaper for her, i hit the comparison sites.
That's when i got confused about all the terms & what it was asking - having never dealt with any of that before.
I did one comparison with what i thought was correct details & it said the cheapest supplier is Telecom Plus. Never heard of them myself (means nothing i know). Is cheapest always best or can you have issues?
Also is switching just like broadband switching? Tell your provider you want to leave, sign up with someone new from a set date & it all works seamlessly?
Want to help her out, but tbh i'm not sure where to start.
She's currently in credit with BG too.

All you need for a comp site search are your annual kWh figures for each fuel (from your annual statement or supplier), and your postcode-it couldn't be simpler. So I'm not clear what 'terms' you find confusing? Find the best tariff for you, and sign up online via a cashback site. You don't have to contact the outgoing supplier, the incoming supplier does that for you. From that point a switch takes 4-5 weeks.
The only other decision you need to make is whether to go for a variable tariff or a fixed rate tariff.
Any credit due from BG will be repaid once the switch has gone through and the final bill sent.No free lunch, and no free laptop
