MOT pass without advisory...but....
Just bought a C4 Grand Picasso. The MOT was expiring, so the dealer said he'd put it through an MOT. When we picked up, he said it had passed with no advisory and gave as the clean certificate. When we got it home we found 2 chips in the windscreen, one in drivers line of vision. That shouldn't have got through without an advisory. When I checked the MOT for last year, the two chips were mentioned in the advisory, and clearly have not been dealt with. So my question is, how on earth did it get through the MOT this time without being spotted, did the garage just 'do a botch job' for an mot? What can I do now I have chips in the windscreen?

Back to the dealer for a repair or new screen else pay for it yourself.0

Check with your Insurance Company, some have a system of offering free treatment for small chips. This prevents a bigger payout, when the chip spreads and cracks.
Rule used to be when I was Testing, chip has to be less than 10mm in size (diameter) or not in the path of the wipers. It is not necessary to make an 'Advisory' note, if it does not meet those criteria, but I would have advised upon it. I would also have checked the last Advisory sheet, if it was available, before carrying out the test.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

I can see the issue. They didnt spot that so have they checked everythink else properly?
But on the other hand do you really want to go back and complain and say please fail it.
They may have checked the previous MOT seen the advisories and thought you know about them anyway.

i am with you.
Does the OP really want a fail, on the other hand he maybe wants a fail and then have the car reapired and passed or reject it0 -
A small stone chip won't be an MOT fail, even if it's in the line of sight.
Surely and advisory is just whatever the MOT inspector thinks you ought to know, but isn't bad enough to be a failure. Perhaps this inspector decided that the chips were so small that they weren't worth mentioning. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

I've had a chip repaired under this scheme, it may prevent the chip spreading but in my case the chip remained very visible. It was right in front of my eyes and the garage eventually agreed to replace the screen. It was however a company vehicle.
If possible get the screen replaced, if the repair is not perfect it will annoy you and it might prove very difficult to get them to pay for a new screen after you have accepted the repair option.

Agree with post #3 ask them to fix it and if they don't then off you go to VOSA.
Only problem is proving that the chips didn't happen after the MOT.0 -

We called out Autoglass for a couple of chips in DD's windscreen - turns out they were repairs that you could still see . Check they weren't repaired and that this isn't the case for you.
Just a question though, how come you didn't notice them when you bought / test drove the car?0
