Hi, has anyone had any dealings cancelling sky? My dad died recently and I want to know if the sky can be cancelled in his name and retaken in my mum's name. It was all in his name only but same address.

Sure can....especially if you want to continue the contract in another name they won't mind at all.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Sorry think I misphrased myoriginalquestion. Can we cancel dad's account and start a new one, ie with a new contract, therefore cheaper as anew customer or as its the same address will they not allow it?0

I would cancel, leave it for a few weeks and then sign on as new customer.0

Actually I would advise that you cancel any and all items billed in his name, or in joint names and start new contracts. Make sure the TV licence is in your mum's name; the address (apparently) is not sufficient.
re the Sky; ring up to cancel and they may well offer a better deal to retain your mum as a customer anyway;)
Make sure the Council Tax people also know she is single and living alone (if that is indeed the case) as she will be entitled to 25% discount on that.
The REASON I suggest you make sure all bills are in your mum's name is so that there is no confusion when they are paid; I once almost came to grief when I paid a water bill by cheque and because the name on the cheque wasn't the same as the name on the account they banked the cheque and held the money in a suspense account and sent me a red bill even though it was all explained in a letter!
While you are sorting all this out (condolences for your loss BTW) if you phone anyone about anything note date & time of call, to whom you spoke and (briefly) what was said. Because sometimes the people on the end of the phone don't deal with everything properly.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

yes you can. Same situation but we havent cancelled it yet. I directly asked the sky man on the phone. He said hes told to say no but the real answer is yes. Were waiting on a new customer deal to come up thats appealing before we cancel.
Dont want to be left too long with no sky!:eek:0 -

It was cancelled at his death, along with any other contracts.
All you need to do is inform them of the death.Be happy...;)0
