Should I buy a Toshiba laptop?

Hello all
In an earlier post, I asked whether or not I should go for an Acer laptop. The majority verdict was no - for reasons of poor customer service and poor build.
Anyway, given the above, I now have my eyes on a Toshiba laptop:
Here are the questions:
1. Toshiba laptops and their customer service - good or bad?
2. The specific Toshiba laptop I am interested in operates on an Intel Celeron Mobile-370-1.5GHz processor. Is there much differnce between an Intel Celeron-M and an Intel Pentium-M (i.e. Intel Centrino)?
Again I should stress that I will not touch PC world/Dixons/Currys, etc with the proverbial bargepole!
Many thanks in advance for all responses received.

Saf,
1. Yes, I would say they are the best available. Bit like everything in life - you get what you pay for!
2. The difference would be processing power. I've never had a celeron based processor in my life but from what i've heard from people they're not worth the money. It's pretty much like an economy processor. I would personally pay a touch more and go with the centrino. It uses less power to perform the same (if not better) processes at a faster rate.
In case you're on a budget, I would recommend going for a Fujitsu Siemens laptop.
Where would I buy a laptop? https://www.insight.com or somewhere like aria.co.uk or even microdirect.co.uk. A simple google search should help you find alot of decent laptop retailers.
Anyway, hope that helps.

2. I'm afraid when it comes to Celeron-M the above answer is not correct. These are Pentium-M chips with half the cache but plenty of it (as much as 1mb in some cases). It also doesn't have the speed stepping of Pentium-M which saves battery life. The difference in performance is not great unlike desktop Celeron processors.0

Toshiba is a very good brand for laptops, I can't comment on their customer service though. I would also consider Sony.
I would stay away from https://www.insight.com as their customer service is poor (I once placed an order and this got duplicated so that I then had 3 orders charged to my account!) It then took 2 weeks to sort everything out!
I can recommend https://www.dabs.com (although in the past their customer service has been slow to respond sometimes they are excellent otherwise) but obviously check around for prices.
Finally if you do change your mind and go to PC World etc. and also choose an extended warranty you should be able to haggle the warranty down to half the original price.0 -
Can't comment on the customer service as i've not had to use it , but i've had my Toshiba for about six months and I love it :cool:Same old same old since 20080

I've had two Toshoba laptops. The last one I brought around 6 months ago.
When I phoned their customer services they promised to phone me back within 2-3 days but never bothered.
The build quality is absolutely shocking on this particular laptop. Wish I'd spent the little bit extra and purchased a Dell instead.0 -
have owned a toshiba laptop for almost a year. have absolutely no complaints and the one time i did need to call customer services (regarding software) they were superb.
my friend who does it for large companies says that they were provided with toshiba laptops but then as a cost-cutting measure they were given fujitsu laptops. he says there is no comparison and that the fujitsu laptops are very unreliable.
pays your money takes your choice....
hope this helps0
