it usually is like for like, or a value based on depreciation and it's age. It'll be in the terms and conditions etc.
You might be able to argue if there is a specific feature of your tv that the replacement would not have.
How old is the tv?0 -
You never get 'new for old' on insurance unless you pay a premium for such a policy. You get the value it's depreciated to. If you crashed your 5 year old car, worth £1000, would you seriously expect the insurers to pay out the full cost of a brand new car?
What you are also forgetting is that TV's become cheaper in real terms every year. Your £899 set would now cost maybe £699 for one with many more features. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
it 4 years old the guy in the phone said if i put money to a new tv ill get a new 5 year guarantee but if i take the one they offerd ill only keep whats left of my old 5 year guarantee (1 year) so may aswell put some money to a new set.0

I think for 4 years the offer is more than acceptable, considering you can get large screen TV's hd/hd ready etc etc for a lot less now.
I'd take the option though to put towards and get a new guarantee, if it's free, as for another 5 years on top, you can't beat that.
TV's just don't last as long as they did, and more and more are becoming unrepairable by the people you buy them from (cost wise, but also component/location wise too)0 -
this i sthe tv they have offerd http://www.johnlewis.com/philips-46pfl6606-led-hd-1080p-smart-tv-46-inch-with-built-in-freeview-hd/p2312182690

your tv is 4 years old, the one they are offering should be about the same if not a superior spec machine. tvs get cheaper over time and they have to give you one of similar spec not similar price.0

Presumably you've read this?
http://www.johnlewis.com/customer-services/information-about-shopping-on-johnlewiscom#cq-i-guarantees
which includes "If we can’t repair your item, we’ll replace it with an item of equivalent specification". Though perhaps one of the exclusions applies in your case?Stompa0 -
They could have offered you a refund, less a lot of money for the amount of time you have had the set. Probably around £200
I would grab their offer with both hands to be honestmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
If the TV they offer with a better specification, I don't see the problem.0
