it sounds like there are a few people in this thread that live near me! (im also on the commuter belt between the sea and chelmsford
)
I dont know much about the place to be honest, ive been shopping there a few times...i doubt its that quiet but compared to london it may well feel that way.
some friends live in south woodham-ferris (not far away from chelmsford) and they like it!0 -
Im in Billericay, so about 8 miles from Chelmsford
It always seems rather townish and busy to me but obviously would be quieter than London.
They have some excellent schools- my daughter attends one there.
In the toen centre of an evening its quite lively but does tend to get packed full of kids ( unders 20;s) in the bars etc
And you are prob looking at 2.5k + for a season ticket0 -
There is already a park and ride scheme opened in Chelmsford on the Maldon/Southend road. I live 10 miles from Chelmsford. It's good for shopping, has an ice rink and leisure centre with swimming pools.Pad, started 28.11.08 running total £3674.91:T

Hi :hello:
all this info has been very helpful - just looking on the map this evening I noticed that you hit Brentwood before Chelmsford... does anyone have any experience of the area?
thanks:j Where there is a will there is a way - there is a way and I will find it :j0 -

I know Brentwood very well. Brentwood and Shenfield have good schools and there are some lovely areas to live. Shenfield is pretty pricey.
Brentwood is way smaller than Chelmsford, but has pretty much everything you need there in the way of shops (Sainsburys, Next, Marks and Sparks and the likes). The station isn't very central to the town centre, but there are "fast" trains from Liverpool Street that go straight to Shenfield if you need to get anywhere quick!
I can't think of anywhere south of London to compare it with as I don't know anywhere there!
I lived in Romford growing up so know Brentwood pretty well. I've moved across to Hertfordshire now and know that Hertford is an up and coming area for Londoners to move out to: it's got train lines into Liverpool Street and Kings Cross (I think). If you want to ask me anything, you can always PM me.MFW 2019#24 £9474.89/£11000 MFW 2018#24 £23025.41/£15000

i also live about 10 miles from chelmsford and i like to shop and go out there etc
i live in the middle of nowhere so it still seems busy to me but compared to london it may not.. as with most places there is good and bad
if u really want a nice atmosphere why dont u investigate some of the villages that are served by the mainline trains to liverpool street as some are really quiet (and cheaper) but still have peak trains to london taking around 50mins
brentwood is nice but i thought it was pricy but again compared to london it may not be
happy searching

I live in Chelmsford.
The town centre is really a clone town like everywhere else - same shops, same restaurant chains, same kids hanging around outside McDonalds...
There are some really nice residential bits though, and Moulsham Street area has a few independent shops and a bit of character. Just be careful you don't end up living on one of the main streets leading out of town, as you'll spend Friday and Saturday nights being woken up by all the drunk 20 year olds heading home (I sound like a right old git, don't I?! Just that we got caught out on this when we first lived here!).
The other advantage is that as they're sticking up so many new build flats, you can rent (possibly buy also? Haven't looked at it personally!) an older place for a much lower rate - we've got a big 1950s three bed house for the same rent as a one bed new build flat!
I used to work in Brentwood, which is much smaller, and very nice (during the working day at least!). As far as I know, it's a LOT more expensive to buy a house there though.
Feel free to PM me if I can help any more!0
