Move gas and electric meter outside

Options
I am with nPower and want to move my gas and electric meters outside as I am never around when they need to read the meter. Any idea of costs?

probably around £700/£800 for the gas and around £1000 for the electric.
  • some firms will move for free if you transfer to them, this was told to me 2 years ago when i asked southern electric to move my gas meter they didnt do it but the customer service lady told me that some firms do this

Just read the meter yourself every quarter and submit the readings online or by a smartphone app.

Only very short distances, typically as far as the existing cables/pipes will reach.

That won't be applicable in the OP's case, and the costs given by gas4you are a good indication of likely costs.

Obviously cheaper though if the electric cable and gas pipe runs in the direction you want to move, but still expect a high cost. As mentioned about £1500-2000 would be ballpark

Doesnt matter which supplier you are with, to move your meter (electric) you will need to speak to your DNO.

When i asked about getting my meters moved 'cos i was always out, must br over 20yrs ago. Both Manweb and the Gas wanted hundreds.
Both meters were in a cupboard in the porch under the window, Below the window from the outside was a piece of plywood which would have had to be made into a little door and the meters turned around to face the opposite direction. It seemed very little work for that work so never got done.
