I have a desktop PC which accesses the net through a dsl modem.
I also have a vaio laptop which I would like to use in a different room but use my desktops connection.
How can this be done wirelessly ?.
Can I just get 2 bluetooth dongles to connect the pc's that way ? if I can, would any other software be needed to let them talk to eachother ?.
Thanks.

You would be far, far better off getting a wireless 4-port router/ADSL MODEM combo.
If you used bluetooth, you'd need to set-up Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on the desktop PC, which IMHO hardly anyone bothers with now. And keep it switched on all the time you wanted to use the laptop.0 -
Just a small point. You say that you connect via a dsl modem. If you mean that your ISP is Virgin, and you therefore connect via a cable connection, note that you definitely do not want a "wireless 4-port router/ADSL MODEM combo". You want a "wireless 4-port DSL router", also known as a wireless cable router.
If you meant to type adsl, not dsl in your original post, please accept my apologies. ADSL in the UK is generally accepted to refer to broadband via a BT phone socket, DSL refers to broadband via a cable provider (i.e. Virgin).
ADSL and DSL modems and routers are not interchangeable.0 -
Sorry, i meant adsl then, I use aol through a BT line. Smile, you only get one life, LIVE IT.0

So tell AOL that you want a free wireless router like they give to new customers or you will leave.
You would think as i've been with them since 1997 i'd get a free router like new customers but I can only have a free router if I take out another 12 month contract with them.
I'm out of contract at the moment.
I'll shop around. Smile, you only get one life, LIVE IT.0 -
So how much are you paying for your AOL service? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

£29.99 a month, but I claim it back as tax. Smile, you only get one life, LIVE IT.0

Read the AOL thread on the Internet board. Some AOL customers have 8MB Platinum for £9.99 per month. Get your monthly subscription reduced and you could easily afford to buy your own wireless router if they won't give you one! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
