Turf on Turf

I've got a rough piece of lawn to the side of my house. I haven't got the time to dig it up and do things properly and just want to improve the look of it.

What would happen if I put turf on turf. Would it grow into the old turf or would it just dry out and look awful.

'fraid so. turf needs direct contact with the soil to "take". Wouldn't just cutting it and trimming the edges make it look better?

I was told that you have to cut the old turf out (treat it like a carpet) and lay the old stuff in the same places, and also keep it watered.

I have a rough bit too where its very dry (despite watering) and the grass look dead, its just overlooked by a bush which probably contributed to its demise. I notice B&Q have some turf is for £2.xx something per roll.

    Thanks for your replies.

Are there any products that could restore the lawn ?

I think there's one called lawn and feed, I am novice on lawns but I am sure I did see one that does restore lawns, but I suppose it depends on how bad it is.

I did hear its best to keep grass cut and not let it grown to long as it encourages growth and I suppose that discourages weeds etc to get a foothold.

I am currently restoring my lawn with weed and feed and sowing grass in areas where is its now bare. Also taken out some daffs out of the lawn as they didn't flower and restoring grass as the grass I out back didn't take, think I should have watered more
