Thanks all. I've noticed my skin around the operation site is very dry and and peeling. Got to wait until the scars are a bit more healed then get started on fading the scars.
  • Buy some cheap vit E capsules from superdrug, boots etc, pop with a pin, squeeze out the vit e oil and apply to the scar. Ive used it on mine - particulalrly one around my throat following thyroid op, barely visible now .

Thanks so much,a very informative post. I will have a good look at the site.

Ive got a fai bit of acne scarring aswell and still get breakeouts although the OCM method has really helped. I wonder if rosehip seed oil and wheatgerm oil would help that?

Medically recognised treatments for acne scarring include prescription retinoid creams (private not NHS) and dermarolling/ microneedling depending how deep the scarring is. You can't dermaroller over active breakouts or you spread the infection, but prescription retinoids are indicated for acne so might kill two birds with one stone?

Retin-A is the most common, there are generic versions (tretinoin/ retinoic acid) from online phamacies, but obviously you should discuss with your GP/ private dermatologist. I am in no way advocating self prescribing because the product does need to be used in a specific dose/ frequency/ scaling up strength/ application technique, like any drug really.

If the wound is fully healed (this takes months for the collagen to be replaced) there is no real incentive for the skin to change the scar since it functions perfectly well as a barrier. You basically need to damage the skin again in a controlled fashion plus applying the right topicals to encourage healthy 'normal' skin to form. The needles are absolutely tiny, 0.2mm diameter, 0.5-2mm in length but it is something you should research.

There is a fair bit of free information on the Owndoc site, their microneedling products are excellent too, highly rated by many on skincare forums if you Google and recommended by the owner of SEA skincare because she is another customer. Don't go cheaper than this company such as eBay, it's a false economy because the product is unlikely to last more than a couple of uses. http://dermaroller.owndoc.com/

The owner's customer service is superb too if there are any problems with a purchase, I asked a question about an issue (which I am 90% sure was MY fault for using the wrong cleaning solution!!) and she replaced/ upgraded the item right off. She also comes over very honest on her forum with potential clients sometimes advising NOT to use her products.

These videos are good to see the process and results for severe scarring (you can do much less if you don't need this level of treatment). There are also interesting results in anti-aging if that is a concern for you.

Gawd I sound like a sales pitch for these companies! I only 'know' the owners from chatting on forums, absolutely NO financial links just impressed with their products and knowledge. :o
