Recent surgery bio oil or rosehip seed oil?

Hi

Am after some advise, I have just had some major surgery and as a result have a lot of scaring. I have some bio oil which I plan to use to help with the scars. Does anyone know if rosehip seed oil or anything is better?

  • Aloe vera gel. Especially Herbalife Aloe gel because it has comfrey and a few other things in it.

Nattokinase is meant to help break down fibrin which along with helping prevent heart disease is supposed to help reduce scars. Do some research on it.

Thanks will have a look into it.
  • Hi,
Both are very good. You may also want to blend rosehip oil with wheatgerm oil which is also very good for scars (I've just completed my aromatherapy diploma)

Bio oil is an absolute con - if you want a true natural source of Purecellin, just rub yourself with a duck!

Another vote for a high quality aloe vera inner leaf gel, there are some interesting studies in wound healing and collagen induction.

The main active in wheatgerm is vitamin E and in rosehip seed oil is a retinoid (vitamin A), both absolutely play a role in skin healing but the amounts may be too small to bother with. You might be best getting a product that contains a potency that has shown to have an effect in published studies.

I've posted links to this company a few times, because the owner is a research scientist and so is very thorough in her reading. It would be worth looking through the site as there are links to published studies on different actives - a non acid form of vitamin C might be worth looking at. http://stores.skinessentialactives.com/StoreFront.bok
If you intend to purchase do message the owner and ask questions or recommendations, she is very knowledgeable and helpful.

Longer term there are interesting results with dermarolling/ microneedling and scarring, but you would not begin that until the wound is fully healed AFAIK.

Thanks so much,a very informative post. I will have a good look at the site.

Ive got a fai bit of acne scarring aswell and still get breakeouts although the OCM method has really helped. I wonder if rosehip seed oil and wheatgerm oil would help that?
  • No it shouldn't make your skin oily, you only need a small amount if you're planning to use it on your face, massaging it thoroughly into the skin will assist the absorption of oils into the skin

After surgery last year I was advised that simple E45 cream is as good as anything!
Just put some on a finger tip & massage it in

  • Superdrug do an own brand version of Bio oil. It is a lot cheaper but is just the same, (i used to buy bio oil). I had a C section and it was great for that and I now use it as a base oil on my face and hands.

Also a couple of drops of peppermint essential oil in a bath is a good healer for the skin but no more than 5 drops as it is quite strong.
