Travel Insurance:
Just purchased an on-line travel insurance policy, which after checking 8 other companies with similar products, allowing and matching the same pre-existing medical conditions, gave a premium at less than half the others. :j
Can I expect that price to be honored ? The 14 day cooling off period is available to both parties of such contracts ?
I now have an email confirming the policy, its details, copies of the supporting documents, confirmation of payment
by debit card and its acceptance.
Albeit the holiday does not start until the 6th of June 2013 (18days cover) is this holiday now protected by such insurance ?
Any comments ?

Did you compare the actual cover provided by the different policies considered? What did you give as the starting date of the policy? Hopefully not the starting date of your actual holiday in June. The policy needs to start now to cover any cancellation between now and June.0

Thank you for coming up with the most complicated poll ever seen on MSE.
That is some achievement!0 -

If it's a single trip policy then June is correct. It covers events relating to that holiday
If it's an annual policy then it needs to start now. It covers events happening during its validity0 -

As long as you have answered all questions honestly and openly and any assumptions you agreed to were correct then yes.
Policies can vary massively so it is certainly worth checking that this one isnt half the price because it only provides a quarter of the cover but assuming you've already done that then you should be fine.
Ultimately insurers all have their own experiences and experts and even if you have two identical coverages you wont necessary get the same price because A may have had very bad experiences with people with your condition and B may have had good experiences and believes new treatments give much better results etc.
When I was getting quotes for Income Protection last year with pre-existing conditions, 60% of insurers declined me, 3 quoted around £250 a month and one quoted £110 after further discussions. All had almost the same wording0 -
OT but I had to chip in:
''Insurers should always check details with your GP?''
:rotfl:
I don't know about everyone else but my GP barley has time to see me for an appointment once a year. Of course they have time to do your medical screenings on your travel insurance.
And the insurers would have to speak to the client to obtain information and then the GP to confirm. Your insurance policy couldn't be issued until your GP has confirmed your details. Double the work for the insurance company = a raise on your premium. Good idea?0 -
Did you look at Defaqto to establish the star ratings for the cover?

Given how much GPs charge for doing medical reports for insurance companies, they'll always find time to do one.... its why you struggle to get your appointment0 -

True! Who would foot the cost or a pre purchase report though? Client or Insurer?0 -

1) Nice font
2) Ring them and ask rather than make a 'poll' answered by people who don't work for the insurance company and haven't seen your policy.0 -

The poll arises from the ongoing experience of tracking a policy that fits and not directly related to what makes an online quotation with payment a solid contract. The appalling customers front end is the reason for the poll as they need to be brought into the 21st century to meet the customers needs and expectations. Out of the 12 firms I contacted 2 worked without software glitches, particularly obvious when a response was edited. 10 are running the same DB software and although now retired from creating, implementing and managing such data bases, I would give these firms 2/10 for what they purport to be a comfortable online system.
The question as to what constitutes a proper contract has been answered with all the help of the other commentators and Which Legal: The 14 day period is not a recourse available to the seller. Though distance selling regulations apply, the price is fixed and has to be honored unless it can be clearly demonstrated to be completely wrong and very far from the average market price.0
