Microchip cat flaps

We are thinking of getting a cat flap installed for Dylan, has anyone got any comments on this type of flap. Good or bad

Thanks

  • I have had both flavours of catflap that work on the microchip and I would recommend SureFlap wholeheartedly.

Unless you have a really really huge cat.

Having said that I have 2 Maine Coons and they manage quite well.

I love the fact that the method for ensuring the cat can or cannot access the flap is manual on SureFlap rather than electronic like PetaPorte flap. Less potential for it to go wrong and it is very robust. Whereas when I had PetaPorte flap my male used to get out even though supposedly 'blocked'.

So yes, go for it - I love my SureFlap and I wouldn't recommend the other at all (for various reasons).

I would agree it was the best £80 I ever spent, included in the price was the cost of having both my cats chipped. I bought through my vet's .

Had a Sureflap for about 10 months now and it's been a great investment. I had problems with a neighbourhood Tom using the normal catflap, spraying all over the house and terrorising my cats. The Sureflap stopped that and my cats are much happier and my house doesn't stink!

My cats are in and out all day and night, but I did set it to entry only when I had a kitten that wasn't old enough to go outside. I've had to change the batteries once since I had it installed.

I'm not very handy so had a local guy fit it to the existing hole in the door - took him about 15 mins and charged me a tenner.
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D

Just wanted to post to say how impressed I was with Sureflap customer service:
The catch on my Sureflap was stuck in the down position so any cat could come and go through the flap. I rang Sureflap and described the problem and they put a small replacement part in the post for me, free of charge. It arrived in under 48 hours complete with easy to follow fitting instructions.

It's been one of the best investments I've ever made! :money:

I brought a sureflap on Thursday after getting fed up of a neighbour hood cat taking over my house, eating my cats food and chilling on the sofa like it owned the place! I have to say I am very impressed, despite some internet reviews to the contrary it was incredibly easy to install and set up, the cats have got used to it quickly and best of all it keeps the stray out! I would whole heartedly recomend it and only wish I'd got one sooner.

We too have one and had a problem with the catch but were sent a new part without any problem. (I though the catch going again but OH opened the flap up and reseated it and it's fine)
    I'd definitely buy another one.

Sureflap are fantastic and their customer service is amazing. My too intelligent cat figured out how to get out whilst the cat flap was locked (you can come in but not out as opposed to locked both ways). I made a cheeky phone call to them and they sent me a brand new cat flap that had a guard over the button. I didn't ask for a replacement at all! It was completely free and now my too intelligent for his own good moggie is housebound when I say he is!

I have the Petporte and it is excellent. We bought it because other cats were still getting in the magnetic catflap and not only eating our cats' food but spraying too.

The only problem I have is ours sometimes stops working in bad weather but our door is very exposed. I'm thinking of getting a small porch/canopy.

    I'd recommend them.

I've got a petporte one and its been great. I had a problem with the one I'd got first, but they replaced it free of charge. Its got a light sensor on which didn't work because my neighbours security light shines on it and makes it think the sun is out, a timer control would be great for if you don't want your cats going out at night, but other than that I'd definitely recommend it.
