Major bank !!!! up

Hi everyone

My business partner and I recently opened a joint bank account. We've had such a carry on with getting our debit cards correct. We were both issued with cards and neither of them worked. My business partner received her third debit card and while in our local branch decided to put it into the Internet banking machine to check it was third time lucky. When she put it in she found she could access all 6 of MY bank accounts, she could see account numbers, sort codes, balances and do anything you can on Internet banking ie make payments and transfer money. She took the card to the counter and they said it was my debit card but with her name on and had been sent to her address. I've made a complaint and they are looking into it and compensation but I'm not sure what is a reasonable amount of compensation to accept so I don't go to the ombudsman.

Anyone any advice?

Well, what has it cost you?

Seems like very little apart from time, no damage has been done. I wouldn't expect any more than £75 - £100.

LOL. "Santander, the name in bank screw ups".
  • No it's hsbc
  • Other than the fact my business partner now knows my financial position!

    A storm in a tea cup......maybe £50 at most....
  • Run it past me again please to see if I have got it right - you opened a business joint account or personal account?

A debit card in your name will let you see any joint accounts and any sole accounts in your name.
Do you by any chance have the same initial and surname?

or nothing at all, if the bank provided what they had been asked to provide
  • How have the bank provided what they were asked to provide? If it was MY debit card that gave me access to all my other accounts that isn't a problem at all. But the debit card was in my business partners name (Completely different to mine) and it gave her access to all my accounts - joint with others and my sole accounts. In my mind this is completely unacceptable

Then raise a formal complaint and expect compensation, probably £50 - £75.
  • I find it hard to believe but then again I have not had an account with them since they were the Midland bank!
