Scottish Power - invalid email address

I just received a slightly kafkaesque letter from SP informing me that the email address they hold for me is invalid (even though they've sent me plenty of stuff in the past), so they've withdrawn my online energy discount.

Helpfully, the letter adds that I can "easily re-instate my online benefits" by logging in to my account and entering a valid email address - apparently unaware that their website requires the email address as part of the login sequence

I have tried logging in to my account and, sure enough, am blocked by an "email address not recognized" message. It sounds like my email address has got corrupted on their system. I'll phone them on Monday to try to sort this out, but does anyone know of a way to log in to my account that doesn't require a valid email address?

Are you 100% confident that is a genuine e-mail from SP and not phishing, did you click through the e-mail to get to SP website login or did you open a new window/ tab?

It was a letter I received through the post from SP, not an email, so it's genuine.

Have seen one of these letters a couple of years ago but I think it was subsequent to a customer request to manage the account offline.

I've had this before with Scottish Power. They said my email address was invalid (it wasn't) and therefore they deleted my online account.

I had to speak to them on the phone to have my account re-instated and they couldn't explain what had happened.

Seems like they haven't fixed the bug!
