I also get these calls on my mobile.
Howver, it is much more satisfying when you think how much the call must cost them, particularly when I go all gaga on the mobile and keep asking
WHO ARE YOU
and
WHAT DO YOU WANT
and
WHERE ARE YOU CALLING FROM

So unless you think the United Nations are going to, for the first time in recorded history, institute and enforce global legislation, along with the employment of hundreds of thousands of people to monitor every phone call in the country, you're not going to get what you want. So in the absence of the impossible happening, mitigating the problem is the best you're going to get.
Erm, kind of a pointless post! This board IS for venting. Did you not notice that? The OP came on here for a vent, and so did the people defending him/her. So you and taking the p1ss out of them for venting makes you look a BIT sillyBit like mocking people for talking about their kids on a mother and baby board.

It looks like you are not reading the posts properly:eek:
If you want all (or virtually) the nuisance calls to stop, but all the genuine calls to get through, you have to buy a call screener. The whole point of call screeners is that the phone doesn't ring when a nuisance caller is on the line because the call screener blocks them automatically (where or not the number is withheld or from abroad or whatever). With a call screener, (virtually) every time the phone rings there is a genuine caller on the line.
And yes, the call screener lets all calls from the doctor, dentist, school, family etc through. That is what you are paying for - automatic and effective distinguishing between nuisance and genuine calls.
However call screeners are expensive. So if you don't want to pay for a call screener then your only option if you don't want to encourage the nuisance callers is not to answer the phone.
So either you either pay up or put up - your choice.
Hmmmm interesting. I have literally NEVER heard of one of these, but I have looked it up on t'internet, and it sounds interesting. I am also sick of these calls and if something can screen them and filter them; this could be very useful. Maybe the OP - and the other people on here should also look it up.
I wonder how it works though? If it's an anonymous call? How does it know if it is or is not a spam call?0 -
The reality is that nuisance calls are here to stay and will probably just keep getting worse.
If you don't want the constant harassment either
buy an expensive call screener - they really work! They stop virtually all nuisance calls including number withheld and calls from abroad. I wouldn't be without mine now.
or
pull all calls though to the answerphone.
Answering the phone for nuisance callers just encourages them.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -

The one I've got is called Trucall - it costs around £100.
You can configure it in all sorts of different ways depending on what sorts of hassles are you are having.
I was mainly having problems with telemarketers and scammers and most of these were anonymous. The easiest way to block (virtually) all these is to use a feature called Call Whisper. If a caller is not on your whitelist, Trucall politely asks them to identify themselves (name or organisation). If they don't respond the call is automatically blocked (or you can configure it to take a different action).
This seems to block virtually all my nuisance callers
either:
autodialers think the Call Whisper message is an answerphone and so they automatically move on to another number or
the telemarketer or scammers knows there is no point in giving their name as the householder won't recognise it and will either decline the call or else send it to the ansaphone.
If the dentist, hospital, school etc is not on your whitelist, they are are happy to identify themselves to call whisper and so get put through.
But there are other ways to configure Trucall to ensure the type of pests that are bothering you get blocked. Here is a useful review that explains more about these features. http://highfields-arc.co.uk/reviews/truecall.htm.
There are also cheaper callscreeners with less features.0
