The caps lock is to the left of the keyboard.
You would expect a stocks and shares ISA to outperform Premium Bonds and a cash ISA over an extended period.
But the value of a stocks and shares ISA can fall as well as rise. Unlike PBs or cash ISA.0 -
Maybe, maybe not. The return on them is not fixed and depends on the performance of the shares in them
I have a number of them - some of them have done well, some have bombed.
So yes they are a risk - but everything in life is a risk. Nothing is risk free.0 -

You can put around 30,000 different things inside an S&S ISA. An an almost infinite variation. So, there is no way that question can be answered as its a bit like asking which is faster, my car or petrol?
Some of those 30,000 may perform better in certain periods than others. Some things are best suited for longer periods than the more typical 5 years that is often mentioned when investing.
Millions of people have S&S ISAs. They are a very popular tax wrapper to hold investments in. Most people can and will use them successfully with their investments. However, at this stage, you need to take a step back and read about investing and not invest yet.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). A lot of my friends would never invest in stocks and shares just because they dont understand it and see shares in general as high risk and wouldnt have a clue how a fund works. Its a shame as they earn lots and would be tens of thousands better off in their lifetime if they did invest.
The risk comes from what you put inside it, my knowledge isnt very deep, so i just hold 3/4 ftse shares, 2 AIM mining companies and regular investments in 7 funds via HL, spread across industry/country though not scientifically balanced just using very general research via HL and this site. My 6 funds are up 12% currently on my account and im not sure if that even includes any gains made by 3 acc units i hold!
One of my AIM companies went bust (lost 2k), 1 hit Gold or should i say Potash (sxx) and has x4 and counting. Made 6.5k so far.0
