Can very small Jiffy bags go as a Letter?

Just wondered if i were to send something small & flat in one of those tiny jiffy bags.
Would they be able to go as a Letter, rather than a Large Letter?

Yes I think all jiffy bags need to be sent large letter.

If the item isn't fragile/heavy, could you get away with putting it in a normal envelope?

It's not fragile so i'll send it in an envelope.
Didn't really want to have to, but seeing as my item is very cheap (with free p&p), paying 30p less is more feasible.
    Thanks Guys.

Just be mindful that if it isn't 'flat' then the item could get caught in the sorting machinery. There are lots of threads on here where buyers receive 'empty' envelopes.

If you look around, you can get letter-sized board-backed envelopes - provide more support and protection than a jiffy bag, and still fit through the 5mm slot (subject to contents). I flogged a load of postcards using them, absolutely perfect for the job.

or use an ordinary envelope but put an insert of 2 pieces of thin card
(from a cereal box for example) and tuck your item in the middle?

I've had a few mangled items, mainly books wrapped in paper outers that seem to get caught at one edge and end up partly shredded. I've also had bin bags wrapped round squishy items that have been totally wrecked .

I don't think I've ever had a proper plastic mailer torn or damaged though (famous last words)

It's rarely the machinery. As you know, the advice is to wrap securely. so an envelope just won't always do.
A small jiffy or a plastic mailer is the best way.
