Quick luggage question for tonight

Flying tonight, and feeling very disorganised as it's a while since I've flown.
Just wondering if my torch and batteries would be better in hand luggage or in the hold. I have bad memories of having to unpack my whole case on the way to Sri Lanka when they spotted the batteries on the xray machine, but wasn't sure about the hand luggage rules.
And my alarm clock as well - hand luggage or hold?

In other words if you have spare batteries for anything they should be in hand luggage.
Of course a different airline might have different rules!!

I always have my alarm clock in my hand luggage.....I wouldn't want that to go awol!!

Thanks. I'm travelling with Malaysian airlines, but I can't see anything about batteries other than lithium ones on the info page.

i usually only travel with hand luggage, so my batteries and battery charger go in that - its not been a problem for me through airport security.
