Just do a driving test. The footballer Carlos Tevez has been banned from driving here because he hasn't bothered to get a UK licence yet. Though he accelerated the process by also ignoring letters from the police.

I know! I've been trying to persuade her to do it for ages, but she doesn't enjoy driving here very much, especially in London. She only got the provisional licence after I spent ages persuading her and filled in most of the form for her.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

OP's OH is not licenced to drive in France on her UK provisional licence, is the Argentinian licence valid as she has been resident in an EU state in excess of 1 year ? After an incident try explaining the intricacies of the situation to the French police.....

I'd say the EU is a collection of countries rather than a single state (so far!!) so UK residency wouldn't affect her Argentinian licence validity as a visitor to other countries (EU or not).

I'd say there are two boxes to tick.....

Insurance: Yep, she's named on a UK policy which means she is legal in France

Licence: Yep, she has an Argentinian licence which is valid for visitors to France

Maybe her Argentinian licence will not be valid

If she had been resident in Argentina prior to going to France, then her Argentinian licence would have been valid. However, she has been living in the UK for over a year, so the French would expect her to have a valid UK licence.

She doesn't have to take her test in London. There are some places in the UK without any roundabouts or one-way systems where she could take her test.

Totally depenfds on whether the insurance stipulates a UK licence. If so then no cover while driving on an Argentinian licence. (Licence rules for insurance MAY be different for driving abroad)

As has been said, OP needs to read up in detail and seek advice from insurers etc.
