How do Scottish Power calculate my bill?

Submit the reading the day after the DD is deducted, as the computer just looks at the balance and reading at the time, so your account may look like it is in a larger debit than it really is.
eg 2*monthly less the actual usage as opposed to 3* monthly less actual usage.
If your DD is on the 5th, then submit the reading on the 6th, from you get the email to send in a meter reading there is usually a week by when they would like the reading.
Also you can enter your meter reads here and it gives a very close calculation of the bill due.

The last time they tried to increase my DD I got them to keep it the same, I will just pay the shortfall to bring the balance back to zero.

My payment is taken around the 5th of the month. The current quarter ends around 13 April. I suppose I could submit the readings around 6 April and thereafter on 6 July and 6 October. Good suggestion, thanks.

I have a spreadsheet that tells me my current bill so I don't get a shock the next time they present it to me.

I stuck to my original DD payments when I was with EDF. There was a one-off payment around £50 on the anniversary which was okay to deal with. I will insist there is no increase in my DD after the next bill. I'll still be paying nearly £100/month for the next 6 months so that will easily clear the debit. If it doesn't I'll accept they take it from my account.
    Cheers,
    Ray.

It shouldn't make any difference if you submit monthly readings, quarterly will be sufficient, but the more data we have, particularly when your account is new is helpful.

We still do a rolling 12-month calculation, however if the DD is on track at quarterly intervals we will leave it alone and only do a full review every 6 months.

For new customers we get an estimated annual consumption figure for electricity from the old supplier and last actual readings to help with estimating a transfer reading (if required).

For gas we will use the AQ but if that is incorrect it would have an impact, as we can only request a review within a specific time frame.

Again happy to look at your account if you want us to.

    Hope that helps

I understand but monthly submissions are inconvenient simply because of the number of PDFs they will generate.

Could you define 'on track' please? Clearly I'm in debit and probably will be until the summer (July-October) quarter readings are submitted. But if the debit is reducing rapidly in the July bill I would not expect a change in the DD. And hopefully you will not increase the DD when I submit my readings in mid-April as we are exiting the high demand period.

Okay, I understand that. Can you define AQ please?

Because I have a spreadsheet showing my consumption and charges I'm okay at the moment but thanks for the offer.
