D834G is an ADSL modem/router wifi and 4-port switch in one box.
The N600 equivalent is the DGND3700 model. http://www.netgear.com/home/products/wirelessrouters/high-performance/

Nothing wrong with it but when my lot get on the xbox, music, video, chat, catch up tv etc:eek::eek: I need more grunt.;)
  • A DG834 isn't usually a bad modem router, it may be that your family requires more internet speed than is possible so replacing the DG834 for something newer may not help. If you're getting slow internet speeds then may be worth looking at Kitz page on improving ADSL speeds.

If you want to improve the wireless reception then it might be worthwhile replacing.

I recently got a TP Link 8968 to replace my failing DG834 and it performs ever so slightly better but only a little better on connection speed to the exchange and wireless. At £33 I think it's a great product.

It sounds like you are expecting too much improvement from a new router.

Post more information e.g. your ISP and full router line stats - details here.

unless you have a ftc connection, a new router won't make any difference to your download speeds
