Struggling mentally with what to do post bankruptcy

I appreciate this probably won't be a popular suggestion, but if claiming benefits in amounts which you don't need is causing you mental health difficulties as suggested, it is worth noting that you are under no obligation to claim the benefits.
For example, my sister did not need the amount she was entitled to in Child Benefit so she did not claim for it.
If you would genuinely feel happier and more mentally stable without excessive sums coming in, this is an option open to you. You can always claim again if your situations changes - this may be harder with some benefits but child benefit is a straightforward one, for example.0 -
Privicus..... i actually didnt apply for income support for a good while but when i appoached the CAB for support with doing this bankruptcy I was told that if I did not have income support in place they couldnt help me ( their legal aid funding) and that also the OR would see that I hadnt claimed it and would put me on an IPA as the amount I was entitled to but not claiming would be seen as income not needed... :-/ .. to quote her ( CAB lady) she said that as far as bankruptcy was concerned, I did not have the right to pick and chose what I did or didnt claim.... so my claim has gone in and is being processed now and i will go get the bankruptcy done asap
I personally wouldnt say that it is causing me mental health issues .. i think recovering from a DV relationship, losing everything i ever owned, having to re-establish my self and my boys from scratch, moving area and their schools , looking after a child with Aspergers / on the autistic spectrum, having to give up work ( I have always been working since I was 13... veyr strong work ethic and I love work) , having to learn to deal with being a single parent, having to learn to deal with actually having money ( even typing that it feels bizarre but it is a change in circumstances that takes a change of mindset) ..amongst other things... is just something that requires a bit of time, and there are days when its harder than other days... akin to being emotionally winded and catching your breath is the only way that I can really describe it and I kind of got the same feeling from the original OP ( sorry if i got that wrong :-/ ) .. so no mental health problems,,, just a very tired head and a lot of changes to sink in and get used to, but nothing that wont be surmounted over time with a bit of personal tlc :-)0
