I would really love to continue and partake in discussing and debating these interesting industry issues and I think there are two ways forward:-

    1. create another forum which is truly safe and only for industry professionals and hope it takes off

    2. Create discussion groups to bring together brokers regionally if this sort of thing does not already exist.

Me - I'm game for anything and I don't mind being the instigator of such things ;)

    Let's hear your views then!

I assure you homer that there is no hidden agenda here.

I have worked in the industry for a long time to know my trade and do my job correctly - you I believe are not yet in that position?

I am very happy with the work that I do and wouldn't be doing it if I felt otherwise. I am not pessemistic - where do you get that idea from. I believe that all I do on here is try to help people who need it and protect those from the pitfalls of the industry.

Look at the post about the FTB tonight, have I not tried to give an idea on how to ensure that the poster is not going into unneccessary debt.

All I can say is that you are fighting a battle that you will never win..

Have always been very focussed, very determined to succeed, very optimistic in outlook. Being an only child taught me to be resiliant. It has served me well all through my life.

These folks suggesting that us newcomers are bound to fail sit right on a nerve with me.

Everyone here, whether in business as a mortgage adviser for six months, 12 years or 25 years, all have one thing in common - they were all new at some point.

When I trained the junior medical staff in the hospital, I would never have dreamed of ever saying to them that they would never make it - they were encouraged to be the best and to succeed.

You will fail if you are not properly prepared and if by some miracle you manage to work your way through it, it will have been at a much higher cost than it needed to.

MM has said she has done it, she worked in the industry before hand and whilst she is building a company now, I know that there have been compromises along the way and not small ones.

You have an attitude that wants to always be the last word and grate with people by your profound statements which have no substance. I really hope you don't approach your clients in this manner when they question you.

Who said you would fail? I started off newly qualified self employed and whole of market as I can hardly be considered a failure 2 years on. I've just recruited my first AR who will be more of a business partner if anything and I have another AR waiting in the wings ready to join me soon. HOWEVER, I do sometimes wish I'd done a year or so in a bank as I am very shy when doing face to face business (hence my business model)

Nothing is impossible, you just have to have elephant thick skin, the ability to learn from mistakes, the ability to learn from others, long term vision and the energy of a fitness instructor lol

There are enough free resources for brokers to get information and learning experiences from to help you on the way

Also, you might want to consider going to industry roadshows, the biggest of which is Probably mortgage expo which is at manchester GMEX on 16/17th May, there will be seminars you could attend and lots of lenders to talk to.

I saw the Expo - I need to wait for the one in October - this is too soon for me.

I think the one in October is in London C&Q - the Manchester one, which is nearer you is only once a year. I went for the first time last year with another broker from this site and got a lot from it.
